Cracking The LG Washer TE Error Code: Expert Strategies
The LG washer TE error code signifies a temperature error, often leaving your clothes unwashed and you in distress. This error generally signals issues with the heating elements, thermistor, or control board. In this article, we’ll demystify the TE error code and provide expert strategies to get your washer running again.
The TE error usually occurs due to a faulty thermistor, heating element, or short circuits in the main control board. Luckily, these issues are typically manageable with some DIY troubleshooting or replacement parts. By understanding how each component works and the most common reasons for failure, you can resolve this pesky error with ease.
My Experience With LG Washer TE Error Code
I got tE error code on my LG washer.
(I turned on the Lg washing machine and the drum began to rotate. A few minutes later the washer displays tE error code on the screen.)
As it turns out:
I touched my Lg washer’s hatch and it was cold when the water is supposed to be hot. After man-hours of late-night troubleshooting, I found the problem.
That’s the good news.
The bad news? I had to replace the main control board. That means I had to spend $200 getting a new OEM part which wasn’t my plan.
And the result?
My Lg washer was up and running. My solution was not to buy the main control board. As you’ll see in a minute, my success had very little to do with the
board.
With that out of the way, it’s time for me to walk you through my troubleshooting process.
What Does tE Error Code Mean on Washer?
Look:
tE means the Lg washer is experiencing errors related to temperature or heating.
Picture it this way:
Your Lg washing machine won’t heat water to wash your clothes. The affected parts that you will need to run a check right away are the heating element, water temperature, and electric circuit of the main control board.
As you probably know, the water temperature sensor or thermistor, components of the main control board, and the heating elements need to work well for your washer to cycle.
My point is this:
Any fault from these three parts will cause a temperature error code which triggers error code tE. Here’s a brief explanation of the purpose of these parts in detail:
We also have other washing code errors that you may need to know about. For instance, error code PE in an LG washer means that you have a faulty water level sensor. Check out to see how I fixed that problem.
What Causes tE Error in Lg Washer?
Fact is:
Any Lg washer or washing machine will always have lots of problems. It’s important for you to detect and fix any problem so that you can put the washer back to work. And the causes of LG washing machines the error.
#1: Faulty Thermistor
A thermistor is an electrical device found at the back of your washer drum that measures water temperature. In other words: It senses cold water and supplies power to the heating element to warm the water to a specific degree. And when the water reaches the desired temperature, it stops sending more power to the heating elements to avoid overheating. The cleaning process is only effective when the water is at the desired temperature.
And that’s why? The thermister is a crucial device during washing operations. In fact, a faulty thermistor arises from worn-out parts. Specifically, if you have been using the washer for many years. Also: The problem can be a short circuit or bad wiring. A failed thermistor can’t sense the water temperature. And because of that the washer can’t reach the expected temperature for the washing cycle.
LG tE Error Hack #1
In my 17 years of experience, sometimes the connection loosens due to lots of shaking of the spin cycle. Here’s how I did mine: I disconnected the thermistor, squirted a little conductive grease into the pinholes, reconnected the jack, and tied a zip tightly from end to end, snuggling up the connection. It never gave me an error again.
# 2: Faulty Heating Element
The heating element generates ALOT of heat to raise the water temperature inside the washer drum. And it works to ensure the expected temperature is reached. The device has an outer metal layer to pass ELECTRICITY to generate lots of heat enough to raise the water temperature.
The result? When the desired temperature is reached, the heating element shuts off until the water in the drum is cold. There are two causes of a faulty heating element that trigger lg washing machine error code te: Either the outer metal layer of the heating element has rust OR The heating element is bent. Both situations trigger LG washing machine error code te.

Here’s what I came across.
In my years of repairing washers, people check only the heating element when they get an LG washer for the error code. If the heating element is not the issue, ensure that your LG is spinning correctly. Otherwise, check the LG washer UE error if it is a problem.
# 3: Short Circuit at the Main Control Board
The main control board has lots of components that coordinate the function of the washer.

The brain of the Lg washer makes it possible to coordinate all the functions of the Lg washer.
And it has different components that control the washer’s temperature. Specifically, the thermistor ensures the Lg washer performs its function.
The sad news is?
When the main component fails, they short circuit the heating elements triggering tE error. It makes total sense if you think about it.
Whenever people tell me they’ve had a washer for TWENTY YEARS without a hitch, this is the washer they’re talking about.
I have used this washer for seven years, and I love it. If you are thinking of buying a new top-loading washing machine, you can’t go wrong with the TC5003 model(get the one with white/silver panel and not the TR series that has a white/black panel). The TC500 is the old, tried, and true model. They are worth every penny. They are also head and shoulders above the rest for robustness and longevity. I have seen customers that have had theirs for 20 or more years without a hitch.
How Do I Fix the tE Error on My Lg Washer?
Fixing the tE error code on the Lg washer is easy.
If you find it challenging:
Call the technicians to assist you.
Let’s look at how you can fix the faulty thermistor and other parts.
Solution # 1: Fixing the Faulty Thermistor
Look:
A faulty thermistor displays incorrect or impossible temperature failures. Its purpose as we have stated earlier is to measure temperature and send signals to the AC control module to allow the washer system to adjust the temperature set.
How to troubleshoot a thermistor
There are a few things that you need to do to solve the error.
First:
Inspect the thermistor if you have:
Any of those indicates a faulty thermistor.
And the sad part?
A faulty thermistor can’t be repaired. Instead, you need to replace the parts. My personal preference and opinion for replacement is this product.
Here’s why:
Those with this will “never go back”, and those without will say it is worth the extra than many decent thermistors. I belong to the latter group. It’s a great place to get the parts with amazing service and customer satisfaction.
But first a warning:
Before removing the faulty thermistor and replacing it with another one make sure you have unplugged the washer. After checking the video you can now install the thermistor by mounting it to the cord and reconnecting the electrical connectivity.
How to Test the New LG Thermistor
Testing on an Lg thermistor involves the application of heat. First, you’ll need to unplug the dryer, disconnect the wires of the thermistor and remove the thermistor from the washer.
You’ll need a multimeter to carry out an Ohm test and check the resistance of the thermistor. Bear in mind that you can’t do continuity on a thermistor.
Place one of the motor probes on each of the thermistor wire terminals. A good thermistor should have an ohm rating of 11k at room temperature. If your thermistor records a higher or lower than this, you will have to replace it. A resistance value will vary depending on the temperature of the washer.
Solution # 2: Fixing a Faulty Heating Element
The heating element can’t be repaired. When they fail, you’ll need to replace them. To replace it, you’ll need to shut off the power and water supply to the Lg washer. If you have a front-loading washer you’ll access it by removing the machine’s front panel.
The heating element is located at the bottom of the drum area. There, you’ll need to get rid of the electrical connectors attached to it. You can get Lg washer heating elements at Repair Clinic.
Solution # 3: Fixing A Fault At The Main Control Board
The main control board is the brain of the Lg washing machine. It mainly fails due to a short circuit that destroys the components. When it comes to repairing the control board we have the good and bad news.
The good news is that it can be fixed. The bad news is that you’ll need someone who can repair it. You can use this site to get an expert to help you fix the issues. They are quick and fast.
Alternatively, you can replace the entire main control board. Most Lg washers’ main control board parts can be found here.
Bear in mind that the main control board has a separate housing within the washer. For instance, a top-loading lg washer will have it inside the control panel while a front-loading lg washer will have it under the top panel.
One purchase I can guarantee won’t leave you with buyer’s regret is this one.
It works great, and It’s the perfect OEM replacement for LG te error code. I was able to fix my LG washer. I wasted money buying a heating element and thermistor while all the indications point to this main part—simple design, easy to fix. In the Real world, they are hard to beat.
LG Washing Machine Error Code te: Troubleshooting
