Lg washing machine AE error is not the sexiest problem to havewhen you are doing laundry on a weekend like me.

Why?

You will only get the chance to clean your clothes after you have fixed the washer. And this is a problem you can fix without the need for a technician.

In this article will look at:

  • What the LG washing machine ae error MEAN?
  • The root causes?
  • How this lg washer ae error is fixed.

Let’s get started!

LG Washer AE Error Code: What Does It Mean?

An AE error code means that your LG washer warns you that water is leaking and it’s not producing enough power to complete its current load.

The water leakage triggers the flood protection device at the bottom of the LG washing machine.

How does the washing machine know it’s leaking fluid?

Look at your washer door release valve. Is it fully open or not? If you’ve just put a new filter on, do you see an excessive amount of water coming out during your wash/drain cycle?

And this is where understanding LG washer error code AE comes in. Once the problem has been identified, you can go about fixing it.

Besides AE error code, the LG washer can also face drainage issues like LG OE error code.

What Causes LG Washer’s AE Error Code?

Lg washer error code AE is caused by the following possible reasons;

  • A clogged water inlet.
  • Dirty pump.
  • Buildup.
  • Lack of air inside the machine.
  • Lack of suction from the pump.
  • Extreme temperature changes.

A Clogged Water Inlet

Check to see if your filters have been changed recently. Also, check for any pet hair around the washer drain. Pets can clog up the filters.

If you haven’t recently changed your LG washing machine filter, consider looking at it to see if it’s still good by running a few cycles without adding bedding to the washable load carefully.

Poor water pressure is caused by a low-volume washer head problem (cracked or burnt out).

Dirty Pump

If there is a buildup of dust on your water intake vent, it will cause a poor flow of fluid to the internal bearings. Also, dirt in the pump is caused by a lack of cleaning.

The most likely place for water pump failure due to faulty installation is in your washer’s hose. If the hose has been cast without enough care or any damage to it, you can quickly expect leaks when pressure builds inside the system.

Also, this will cause an increased strain on all components and eventually break down and burn out your pumps.

Buildup

Mineral buildup in the spindle/bearings can also cause lousy pressure and an increased chance of leakage or leakage from seals inside parts such as fittings and gauges, etc.

Mineral buildup can also cause problems for the washer pump and seals.

The buildup of minerals such as silica (sand) is most familiar with house cleaners that leave a residue that settles on your components.

That will eventually restrict airflow, affect performance, etc. It becomes more evident if the buildup happens close to where you use filters, for example, under the filter housing or nearest tub seal.

Lack Of Air Inside the Machine

When LG washer error code AE occurs, you should check for dirt or debris blocking your water intake vent and pump because this will impede fluid flow.

Lack of air causes leakage, causing other problems such as wear and tear of internal parts such as bearings, seals, and water pumps.

The filter is installed correctly with enough room for fluid. And this will help maintain intense pressure between the fuel line and intake vent during operation, thus improving gas-to-water circulation to the spindle/bearings, which is essential in bad piping (or poorly installed unit).

Lack of Suction From the Pump

If insufficient air has been supplied, the pump should force all fluid through the system until there is a vacuum. Also, this will lead to a poor or no washing effect.

Mineral buildup is found on the lower backside of the pump shaft and suction tube. Lack of suction can be caused by dirt and debris in the outlet vent, leading to improper water flow. Also, poor or no suction can cause a buildup of minerals.

Extreme Temperature Changes

Too many significant changes in temperature also cause the AE error code. Warm water temps may not have enough pressure to force through the pump. And this can also hinder the performance of other systems within the LG washer.

How to Fix LG Washer AE Error Code

Now that you know the possible reasons for the LG washer error code AE, let’s look at how to fix it.

Step 1: Examine all connections.

Check the pipes, drain hoses, inlet vent screen, and connections causing the issue with LG washer error code AE.

Look at the external parts to see if there is water inside or leaks leaking out of components. Also, check to make sure all pipes are not restricted when you turn on your washer. Verify this with a hose being run through each line lengthwise.

Minimize any restrictions here by putting them inline and running them alongside where they meet the bulkhead. Remember to check the soap drawer to prevent detergents and the door seal from preventing leaks from occurring.

Step 2: Disconnect your LG washing machine.

You are playing with electricity here (in a good way), and to reset the AE error code, you must do a diagnostic test. That’s why you must unplug the washer from power to avoid any risk of electrical shock.

Step 3: Flip the filter lid over.

After flipping the filter cart down, remove the black wire inside. You will expose two white screws, which you need to remove.

Step 4: Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the screws. Remember to keep your screws somewhere safe

Step 5: Remove the bottom panel.

The sensor sets the flood error seat behind the mainboard, which is inside the bottom panel.

Slowly pry the panel out with a flat-head screwdriver.

Step 6: Remove the board assembly and store it safely.

Yes, I’m talking about your LG washer’s mainboard—remove it. Since our sensor is behind the mainboard, we must remove the mainboard.

Using the flip-head screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws that hold the board assembly. Now take out the mainboard by pushing it towards the right and pulling it towards you.

Now you can see the sensor.

Step 6: Remove the wire that holds the sensor (the hazy wire) by pulling it out using your hands.

Step 7: Determine the source of the lick.

There is water flooded below the flood sensor. Check all the evidence of where the water is coming from.

If you can’t trace the source of the lick, dry the water with a towel before resetting it. Then plug your LG washing machine back in, select the cycle, and check for any leak sources (using a torch or something similar). Once you see where the lick is coming from, you can fix it.

Note: If your washing machine tab is broken or cracked, you need to patch the hole using epoxy or something.

Step 8: Put your LG washer together.

After eradicating the AE error code, turn off the washer and put everything back in place.

After assembling everything back together, turn on the washer to confirm whether the problem is solved.

If the error code AE still appears, repeat the steps above to eliminate the code.

That is all. You should not see this error condition anymore on your LG washing machine.

Final Word

LG error code AE is a harmless fault that can be quickly resolved. However, this error code only occurs when the washing machine is under heavy water while running at high temperatures (above 150 °C).

So you have to use it at low temperatures so that your washer does not fill itself up with complex discharges or an accumulation of cosmetics in its internal plumbing system, which would cause some severe problems inside of your machine for sure.

If the error persists after doing all the “Do It Yourself” steps above, it is advisable to contact a licensed and professional technician.
